Valli Kummi is a traditional folk dance originating from the Tamil Nadu region in South India. Performed predominantly by women, this dance is a beautiful expression of joy and devotion, often conducted during local festivals or important village events. Dancers, dressed in colorful sarees with traditional jewelry, form a circle and dance by clapping their hands rhythmically.
The dance is accompanied by folk songs, usually sung by the dancers themselves, which tell stories of love, heroism, and devotion to the gods, particularly the goddess Valli, the consort of Lord Murugan. Valli Kummi is not just a dance; it’s a vibrant part of the Tamil cultural heritage, showcasing the region’s rich folklore and musical traditions.
To encourage our traditional art and culture ‘Valli Kummy’ was organised by Inner wheel and ‘Kongu Makkal MA Mantram’. After the Performance to award them Certificate by the Inner Wheel. Each one received a certificate which made them feel proud and excited to get an award from an International Forum. This was an unforgettable movement for us.
